The N-ary Mandate: Using Hyperedge Knowledge Graphs to Eliminate Fragmentation
Traditional knowledge representation systems based on binary relationships fundamentally fail to capture the multi-dimensional nature of enterprise knowledge. This paper introduces the N-ary Mandate — a principled approach to knowledge representation using hyperedge-structured graphs that preserve the natural complexity of real-world relationships without lossy decomposition into pairwise connections. The research demonstrates how N-ary relationship modelling eliminates the fragmentation artifacts that plague conventional knowledge graphs when representing complex regulatory requirements, multi-party contractual obligations, and interconnected risk relationships.
Experimental evaluation across enterprise knowledge domains shows significant improvements in query accuracy, relationship preservation, and reasoning capability compared to traditional binary-edge approaches.
