Architecting the AI Control: Enterprise Governance for the Agentic Era

The agentic era represents a fundamental shift in enterprise computing: AI systems that don't merely respond to queries but take autonomous action — executing transactions, making decisions, and interacting with other AI agents without human intervention. This paper provides a comprehensive enterprise governance framework for maintaining meaningful control as AI systems accumulate increasing autonomy. The framework addresses the core architectural challenge: how to design governance structures that are fast enough to keep pace with autonomous AI operations, robust enough to prevent unintended consequences, and flexible enough to evolve as AI capabilities advance.

Drawing on governance principles from high-reliability organisations, the paper proposes control architectures that balance the efficiency gains of AI autonomy with the governance requirements of regulated enterprises.
